Now, you have one more reason to encourage the teen in your life to lease or buy a Chevrolet Equinox. (Besides its superb highway efficiency rating of 31 mpg and a maximum towing capacity of 3,500 pound, of course.) The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety recently named the Chevrolet Equinox a top choice for teen drivers on the 2020 Safe Vehicles for Teens List.
IIHS Test Standards
To earn a spot on the list, vehicles must receive an “acceptable” or “good” rating in the IIHS driver-side small overlap front test. They must also achieve “good” ratings in the moderate overlap front, roof strength, side, and head restraint tests.
Safety Beyond Measure
In addition, the Equinox needed at least four stars from the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA) in the side and front tests, and a four-star overall score. Consumer Reports also needed to award the vehicle 3 out of 5 for emergency handling capability. The Equinox not only met but surpassed these requirements.
Teen Driver Technology
The 2020 Equinox was named an IIHS Top Safety Pick after demonstrating its crashworthiness in these tests. Another strength of this protective model is that it comes with Chevy’s exclusive Teen Driver technology. It lets you customize settings for your teenage driver and monitors his or her performance, so you can examine their virtual report cards to know where they could use extra coaching during their driving lessons.
