With the end of winter finally in sight, it’s time to celebrate. And what better way to ring in the spring than by hopping behind the wheel, rolling the windows down, and hitting the road? Here are some of the best road trip destinations near Boston.
Providence, Rhode Island
For a change of scenery, make the quick drive over to Providence. Explore Little Italy, meander around the scenic campus of the world-famous Brown University, and hand-feed a giraffe at the Roger Williams Park Zoo. You can even take a moonlit ride in a Venetian gondola.
If you want to sample some unique small-town charm without driving for hours on end, look no further than Rockport. Hike along the coast at Halibut Point, chill on the pier, and indulge in some award-winning seafood dishes at My Place by the Sea.
The two-hour drive is a bit on the long side, but Portland is worth the extra effort. You can walk around the stunning city, soak in the atmosphere of the pier, get out on the water in a rented boat, and sample some local craft breweries. And, of course, treat yourself to at least one legendary lobster roll.
